PorkPug
PorkPug scrolling platform game
A Java platform game about a pug escaping a slaughterhouse, with scrolling levels, jumping, projectiles and difficulty choices.
Goal
Help PorkPug get back to his owner. Dressed as a pig for a party, he is mistaken for livestock by Pork-On-A-Fork and has to escape before the butcher catches him.
Constraints
The game was built in Java with Greenfoot's actor-and-world model. Years later, I still had the compiled JAR and the original hosted upload, but could not find the source project.
Process
I made the game with Greenfoot actors for the player, platforms, projectiles, collectibles and interface elements. It uses a scrolling-world helper, animated player sprites, keyboard movement, jumping and collision handling.
The exported build includes a start menu, a scrolling tutorial, three difficulty choices and multiple level variants, with score, time and life displays.
In 2026, I recovered an editable project from the compiled JAR using a Java decompiler. All 70 recovered Java files compiled against the matching Greenfoot API. The original upload also retained a JavaScript version, which now powers the browser demo without rewriting the gameplay.
Result
The original game is playable in the browser again, with its images, menus and scrolling levels preserved. An editable Greenfoot project has also been recovered locally.
The web demo runs the original exported build; changes to the recovered Java source would require a fresh web export.
